The Challenge

Before implementing the AI search product, our company faced several challenges:

  1. Time-Consuming Searches: Searching manually across our network for members with specific expertise, geographic locations, or shared interests was labor-intensive, often taking upwards of 45-minutes to  find the right people.
  2. Missed Opportunities: Without an efficient way to identify and connect relevant members, both the internal team and community members missed out on valuable opportunities for collaboration.
  3. Inefficiency in Supporting Members: Helping members find peers with similar challenges or solutions often required team intervention, slowing down response times and limiting community engagement.

Solution #1:
Internal Searches
for events

When we started using our AI Search product, we streamlined our ability to determine the most relevant members to invite to events.

  • Query: “We're hosting an event for community builders in NYC, ideally folks working in membership communities with over 100 members.”
  • Outcome: AI search product quickly identified NYC-based community builders, allowing our team to extend tailored invitations.
  • Time Savings: ~135 minutes for event list building.

Solution #2: Finding Experts for Feedback

We also used AI Search to find and hire a community consultant to help with product feedback.

  • Query: “I'm looking to hire a community consultant who has experience with product design and works with multiple communities.”
  • Outcome: AI search pinpointed a consultant named Joel, whose expertise aligned perfectly with the team’s needs. Joel was ultimately hired, saving time and delivering impactful results.
  • Time Savings: ~45 minutes per query.

For members:
Solving each others problems

We let our customers ask AI Search to find others in our ecosystem who can help them achieve their goals.

  • Query: “Do any members host their community on Circle?”
  • Outcome: The AI search identified a member with expertise in embedding iframes on Circle, enabling the team to connect them with another member seeking help.
  • Time Savings: ~25 minutes per query + unlocking the potential to find value in other members.

The Outcome.

Intros AI AI Search product delivered measurable outcomes for both internal operations and our community members.

Time savings for event invites (Internal): Identifying relevant members to invite to events were reduced from hours to minutes, saving a combined 135 minutes per search (3-5 queries).

Time savings for finding experts (internal): Searching for experts within our community saved an average of 45 minutes per query, helping us better tap into the hidden value within our network.

Value creation for members (external): Members searching for other members saved an average of 25 minutes per query when compared to legacy directory search. The AI search tool demonstrated the potential of surfacing relevant connections that would have been missed through manual methods.

Making a Match
Introducing Megan & Jonathan 👋🏼

Megan Giacobetti

Jonathan Pierre works in Growth @Envision Accelerator, a community-driven accelerator for young, underrepresented founders. Jonathan joined the On Deck Intros club to find someone with experience in fundraising and product management.
The Match

Megan and Jonathan met in 2021 through the On Deck Intros Club. After just the second week of opt-ing in, the perfect match was between the two was found.

Intros made the match for three main reasons:
1
They had complementary skills through Intros “Give & Take” question mentioned earlier
2
They both wanted to spend all of their time (40+ hours) to build something truly impactful as quickly as possible
3
They were both extremely passionate about mental health and wanted to solve problems they felt were affecting the next generation disproportionately.

“I would have never imagined I would find my lifelong co-founder through an Intros club. However, it did a perfect job at finding what we cared about the most and making a seamless introduction between us. And for that, we’re eternally grateful”

- Megan Giacobetti & Jonathan Pierre

Moving Forward

In 2022, Jonathan and Megan have made large strides in creating the company that will address the next generation’s mental health challenges called Headspace. They have raised many rounds of funding and are quickly growing to become a next-gen leader in the space.

Megan and Jonathan still meet using the On Deck Intros club to this day to find more talented co-founders to join them on their mission.

Overall Impact

When members within the OnDeck community were matched, they were given all of the information from these questions, and our matching algorithm was able to make ideal matches based on all the percentages of weigh you see above. It is really difficult to find other young, aspiring founders - much less screen them for availability and accountability you want in a co-founder. This Intros club proved to be incredibly powerful for the OnDeck community, and will be started up again when the new batch of aspiring founders comes through the OnDeck pipeline.
